Steel Type & Fittings
The Tamahagane is a kind of steel crafted using the Japanese tradition. It is a component made up of pure iron sand or Satetsu, a component coming from Shimane, Japan. There are two kinds of Satetsu: Masa and Akome Satetsu.
The Hadori Polish improves the visibility of the Hamon. Experts make use of a coarser abrasive compared to the blades body. This leaves it shinier and more polished in appearance.
For its fittings, these consist of the Tsuba, Menuki, Kashira, and Fuchi. The parts of the sword are all made using high quality copper.
Accessories and Inclusions
The sword is beautifully crafted and comes with a Saya (Scabbard) made from full ray skin with buffalo horn. It’s combined with a full red Samegawa to increase its aesthetic appeal. Samegawa is ray skin that works to prevent the sweating of your hands. This will keep your grip firm on the Tsuka.
Also, it will avoid having your hand slipping over the sword while practicing. Aside from this, the Samegawa has great resistance against sweat and humidity.
This Japanese Katana comes with a silk sword bag for use when taking the sword while traveling.
Katana Sword Measurements & Design
This Katana weighs 1.7 kilograms and measures right for proper wielding. Its blade is 72 centimeters long, 3.2 centimeters wide, while the Tsuka has a length of 27 centimeters.
The Tsuka is wrapped with a nice red Ito made of rayon silk. This protects the Tsuka just like how the black Samegawa safeguards this area.
Samegawa translates to sharks skin, but instead of using this, ray skin is used for the sword. It prevents the Ito from slipping when this Katana is being used.
Sturdy & Durable Sword
The best Katana should be strong, durable, and can withstand the rigors of training. This sword can handle intense Tameshigiri due to its full tang and sharpened blade.
A full tang is when the Katana handle extends all the way through it’s handle, and allows for more force that’s leveraged on the Tsuka. This goes against the resistance of the material cut by the Katana.
The swprd comes with a double Bohi or Blood Groove which runs along side each other to help lighten the blade. It works just like an I-beam for construction. The Bohi then allows a certain number of strength to be achieved with lesser materials.
Katana in Martial Arts
The Katana were weapons used by the Samurai both for battles and for practice. For training, this blade was often used to improve their skills in various martial arts. Of course, it was their primary tool for battles during the feudal period of Japan.
Today, modern martial arts still make use of the Katana blade. It can be seen in martial arts that include the following: Kendo, Iaido, Kenjutsu, Ninjutsu, and Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu.
