The saya is painted orange with metal flakes and features a detailed kojiri piece.
The blade is handmade from 9260 Silicon Alloy Spring Steel. This type of blade has more lateral strength and is easier for Tameshigiri (bamboo/mat cutting) from the weight and the reduced drag. The spring steel blade is most commonly seen in application on fencing foils where it needs to withstand a high degree of bend and still be able to return to center.
The 9260 is a silicon alloy which has a significantly increased fatigue resistance compared to standard carbon steel. The addition of 2% silicon changes the behaviour of the steel drastically for use in a katana or in this case Tachi sword.
The balance of the blade is perfect and the sword is completely functional and very sharp. It can be used for drills, practice and test cutting.
This is an excellent sword for training (perfectly suitable for Tameshigiri). It is full tang and sharpened.
