Tanto Knife
The Shirasaya has a long history in the art of Japanese sword smithing. It is basically like the blade’s ‘pajamas’, and is used as blade storage before the blades have been fitted as well as in times of peace, to store ancestral blades and to display the fittings, sans sword. It became popularized in the 21st century as a work of art on its own due to its simplicity and because of the film industry.
This hand forged redwood folded steel tanto blade is made of T10 steel it has been folded 13 times with 8192 layers. The blade is sharpened and fully functional, capable of cutting things like paper, bamboo, tatami mats, water bottles.
The saya is redwood with a natural wood grain finish. The saya fits seamlessly into the tsuka.
Tsuka: The habaki is a one piece brass construction that secures the blade. The tsuka is the same natural red as the saya. Wooden mekugis secure the tang of the sword into the tsuka.
A silk sword bag is included.
