They are fully functional, beautiful, and can withstand the rigors of practice or training.
The 1060 Samurai Sword Set
This samurai sword set has pieces made from 1060 steel. This type of steel can be seen in a lot of entry-level swords. It also has a carbon content of 0.60% These blades are heat tempered and sharpened, making them suitable for cutting targets that range from soft to medium objects. These blades can also withstand the rigors of real training, allowing you to enjoy the swords and knife to their fullest.
These are also full tang blades. Meaning, the tang extends to the entire length of the tsuka. This makes the blade and the grip one piece of metal.
Here is a list of the measurements of each blade in the set:
The katanas blade is 72cm long, 3.2cm wide. Its tsuka is 27cm long which is great for single or double-handed wielding. The overall weight of this sword is 1.49kg.
The wakizashi blade has a length of 51cm and width of 3.2cm. Its tsuka is adequately sized at 21cm and weighs 1.25kg.
Lastly, the tantos blade is 32cm long and 3.2cm wide; its tsuka is just 15cm long and weighs 0.80kg.
The swords and knife appear to be lighter because of the bohi or blood groove. This a beveled slot on the blades flat area. It runs down the weapons length to make these more lightweight. The bohi also adjusts the balance point to make the pieces easier to wield.
Fittings and Accessories
The set of swords includes the fittings for all three swords. These are made up of the kashira, fuchi, menuki, and the tsuba. All of these are made of copper except the menuki which is made of brass.
The tsuka is kept safe by the white samegawa. This protects the tsuka and keeps sweating hands dry. It allows proper gripping of the sword as well. It is also protected by the brown silk ito. It is mostly called the tsuka-ito and its purpose is both aesthetic and functional. It strengthens the tsuka and counters technical failure when using these blades.
These blades come with a brown saya. Its a sheath that holds the swords, also protecting the blade from unwanted damages or breakages. For added protection, a silk sword bag is also included.
