Chinese Guandao Sword
This Chinese Guandao has a blade of sharpened 1060 high carbon steel; The leading edge of the sword is sharpened. The guard and handle pommel are of brass. The wooden grip is wrapped with synthetic blue leather cord. This Guandao is a two handed battle ready sword from China. With its wide blade with a long tapering edge plane this Guandao is a dedicated chopper of a blade.
Outdoor practitioners can use this to cut down things like bamboo, tree branches. Due to its cleaver-like blade some historians have suggested that the Guandao has its origins as an agricultural tool that was turned into a military weapon fit for outfitting levied troops.
Whether or not that is the real origin it became a reality when the Guandao was manufactured in mass numbers to outfit Chinese nationalist troops with a fighting sidearm to resist the Japanese Invasion in the Second Sino-Japanese War. It developed a reputation for effortlessly removing enemy heads and a mere glance at the blade gives immediate credence to such claims.
