Naginata Blade

The Naginata is known as the Japanese version of the Pole Arm and its design, as well as appearance, was originally taken from the Chinese pole arm weapon called the Pu Dao. Traditionally-made Naginata’s are originally very long weapons, so when speaking of our Naginata, it is only the blade itself, made as a sword and not as a polearm. Generally speaking, the Naginata is a very lengthy weapon which measures over two meters in length; yet currently for our Naginata, we only create the blade of the sword without the long staff that usually comes along with the weapon. Our Naginata may not have the same length as the original weapon yet it is as efficient and fully functional as the traditional blade.
The Naginata was first utilized during the eighth century and was mainly used for dismounting cavalrymen during battles; additionally, the naginata also proved to be highly effective in the process of clearing foot soldiers which were extremely necessary during battles. Because of its efficiency, the Naginata soon became one of the most favorite weapons utilized by the Samurai in history.
This Naginata’s blade has been designed and fashioned by utilizing the forge folding method to create an appearance that is identical to blades that have been created using the lost Damascus steel folding style. By hand, the swordsmith thoroughly forges and stacks a few steel layers which have been folded about thirteen times, creating a total of 8,192 layers to create a durable and outstanding blade. The excellence of this specific technique can be seen easily since a unique grain pattern is beautifully exhibited on the steel blade – this is the effect of a fully hand-forged technique and its perfection is due to the sword being created authentically. Moreover, the blade also features a double groove (or Bo-Hi) for exceptional balance as well as an audible feedback when the weapon is swung. Additionally, the sword is fully functional and can be utilized for practice, drills, and even Tamashigiri or target cutting.
Blade: The Naginata’s blade has been formed with the use of 1095 folded steel which has been folded for thirteen times which eventually created 8,192 layers of steel. The entire blade has been dyed with a specific type of red acid which adds more appeal and charm to its appearance; the samurai sword’s performance is not affected by the red acid since it is a natural chemical which is generally safe for the blade. The blade is also sharp and fully functional and test cutting has only proved that the weapon can be utilized for cutting through water bottles, tatami mats, and even bamboo. The total length of this Naginata’s blade measures at fifty-one centimeters while its width is at 3.4 centimeters; when it comes to the length of its grip, it measures at thirty centimeters. The total weight of our Naginata is around 1.55 kilograms which is fairly light and easy to utilize during cutting and practice.
Handle: The weapon’s handle is made from fine hardwood that is wrapped using a thick and durable black leather.
Saya: The Naginata’s scabbard is made from black hardwood which fits perfectly and smoothly to the blade. For the crossguard, fuchi, and the kashira of the Naginata, these are made from a sturdy gold metal which also provides aesthetic beauty and elegance to this samurai sword.
