It is full tang sword making it a very solid piece to use during practice. The samurai Nagamaki has a thoroughly sharpened blade to provide you with a battle ready sword that can readily withstand the challenges and rigors of real training faced in the dojo; it can also withstand cutting practice or Tameshigiri.
The Nagamaki makes use of clay tempered T10 steel which is one of the best steel for a katana due to itÂ’s durability and toughness. T10 steel is often referred to as the High Speed Steel or Tool Steel, it is a modern steel and has a carbon content of 1%. The edge of this samurai sword blade has an HRC hardness of sixty-two and its artistic value also increases due to the traditional hada that appears on the blade which is done by folding the steel multiple times which creates a pattern similar to Damascus steel pattern.
The Nagamaki is also clay tempered or deferential hardened so the edge is hardened and toughened to retain a very sharp edge while its spine is softer, allowing the blade to bend without breaking. Because of this, the Nagamaki is very suitable for most target slashing / cutting such as bamboo, tree branches, and also tatami mats;
There is also the presence of a bohi or blood groove which helps lighten the blade while also adding a little more speed and agility to this handmade Japanese sword when you swing it. When not in use, it is best to keep the blade in its stylish black saya.
