Katana Components and Tsuka Design

This Katana features metal fittings. These include the Menuki, Kashira, Tsuba, and the Fuchi. All these components are crafted to fit the Tsuka right.

The Tsuka of this Handmade Katana has a black Ito wrapped over a white Samegawa. The Ito or Tsuka Ito means handle cord or handle wrap. For the Samegawa, it is sometimes called the Same Kawa that wraps around the Tsuka.

It works by keeping the Ito in place and preventing it from loosening up. The Samegawa also encourages a much better grip for the user.

Functional & Easy to Swing 1060 Carbon Steel Blade

This Katana has a 1060 carbon steel blade that’s sharpened and fully functional. This kind of sword steel is an excellent compromise between strength and its hardness. Thus, making it a durable piece.

Its edge is tough while the sharpness lasts longer than usual. This also allows the blade to become more resistant to oxidation and corrosion.

There is a Bohi on this Katana which allows the blade to be lighter and easier to wield. This is in comparison to swords without one. The Bohi is also known as the blood groove or fuller, even if it is a feature that doesn’t have any connection to blood.

Full Tang Blade

This type of Katana is beneficial for practice since it is a full tang piece. It boosts the level of stock metal in the Tsuka which is great for changing the sword’s balance point and make it sturdy and safe for practice. This is important since the blade of a Katana is usually heavier than the Tsuka.

Accessories and Sizes

This Katana has a special marble pattern Saya and a silk sword bag for added protection. The Saya is the sword’ sheath to protect the blade from dust, dirt, and rust.

For its dimensions, the blade is 71 cm long and 3.2 cm wide. Its Tsuka is 27 cm long and weighs a total of 1.49 kg.

The Classic Process of Sword Making

The Katana was a sword first adopted as a Samurai warrior’s blade during the late 13th century. Since that time, the Katana has become the Japanese Samurai traditions iconic symbol.
