Swords were vital during the warring period of Japan. Today, these aren’t used for battle but are necessary for practicing certain martial arts. The katana is the most popular sword and it’s a piece that needs to be added to one’s collection. With that, investing on this katana sword with a black lacquered hardwood saya is a smart choice.

The Black Lacquered Hardwood Saya

The saya is also a sword’s scabbard. It works to protect the blade from scratches, chips, or any breakages when not in use. Aside from its aesthetic value, it also helps you draw the sword easily during training or practice sessions. For more protection, the sword also comes with a silk sword bag. You can use this for storage, or for carrying the sword to the dojo for practice.

Folded and Clay Tempered Red Blade

This katana is not only beautiful but also a fully functional piece. Its blade is 72 centimeters long, 3.2 centimeters wide, and is dyed with red acid. The dye gives it cool-looking appearance, adding to its artistic value. The blade is also crafted from T10 steel. It has 1% carbon content and an HRC hardness of 62. Since it’s sharpened, it is suited for cutting practice, targeting objects like bamboo, tatami mats, and the like. Since it is clay tempered, you can also practice extensive tameshigiri with this sword.

Since the steel of this blade was folded, the sword also has subtle hada patterns appearing on its blade. It adds to the sword’s beauty without affecting its performance or durability.

Light, Full Tang Katana

A full tang sword like this katana has a tang that extends to the whole length of the tsuka. This is better than a sword that has its blade and grip fixed only with screws or weld. Also, this sword weighs 1.59 kilograms but seems lighter because of its bohi or blood groove.

It’s the rounded portion of the sword. This can be located on the flat side of the blade. The bohi may also be called blood groove but has nothing to do with blood.

The Tsuka and its Appearance

This katana has a tsuka that measures 27 centimeters. It is long enough to accommodate both hands. It is also wrapped and protected by a burgundy-colored samegawa. This works by protecting the tsuka and preventing the sword from slipping off your hand during training. An authentic black leather ito also wraps around the samegawa. It has both aesthetic and functional purposes.

Sword Fittings

This katana also comes with a few fittings. These include the menuki, kashira, fuchi, and tsuba. All of these are made from HQ copper.
