It was different from the firm rules in measurements in regards to the blade’s length. In some cases, the hilt was also included. The Nagamaki had a variety in the blade & tang length, the style of its Kisaki, and more.

It is actually a very strong and sturdy mount when done the proper way. This is for easier dismount of the blade when needed. It is beneficial for inspections or maintenance.

For the Katana, it often sported just a single or double peg, while the Nagamaki had minimum of two or more. This was to account for the increased leverage for a much longer handle.
