Sizes and Tanto Blade Description
This Tanto is lightweight at 0.62 kilograms. It has a blade measuring 15 centimeters in length and 3.2 centimeters in width, with a Tsuka that is 10 centimeters.
It comes with a Bohi that helps in changing the blades balance. This keeps the Tanto swift, quick, and very easy to use. The presence of the Bohi gives this Tanto a nice Tachi Kaze. You will get that awesome wind sound every time you swing the blade.
The blade of this Tanto is made of the tough 1095 folded carbon steel. With that, you will get to see nice-looking Hada grains on the blade’s surface. In addition, this Tanto blade is full tang.
Tanto Ornaments and its Tsuka
Its fittings, namely the Kashira, Tsuba, Menuki, and Fuchi, are all made out of metal. These are both decorative and functional to keep the Tanto sturdy and efficient for use.
Its Tsuka is the grip, and wrapped with a white Samegawa. It’s accompanied by a black and white silk Tsuka Ito, giving the blade a more stunning look.

Tanto Blades in Todays Modern Era
The Tanto was created halfway through the Heian era. By the Kamakura period, the design of the Tanto improved. Swordsmiths forged this to become more aesthetically appealing. The Uchi and Hira Sori styles were the most popular in this time. This increased the production of the Tanto.
It was common for Tantojutsu practitioners to use the Tanto. For this classic martial arts, they often used a blade with a single or double edge. From the beginning, it was made for stabbing, though the sharp edge can also be for slashing.
The Tanto around WWII
A lot of Tanto were forged even before WWII when the emperor was eventually restored to power. Imperial Court members started wearing the Tachi and Tanto set again. This caused the number of Tanto to increase.
After The Second World War, sword forging became restricted. This caused the crafting of the Tanto to plummet. But at some point, interest on the Tanto grew among the Europeans and Americans. Thus, it increased the demand for the blade outside Japan.
There are also contemporary Tanto created by sword and knife makers. These pieces feature a more American design with thicker spines. The design does provide increased strength along the tip. Not only that, but its grip can be altered for better ergonomics.
