Swords were extremely vital during the feudal period of Japan. Today, these are still used for martial arts practice and for battle scenes in movies. If you are practicing martial arts that make use of swords, then this functional and durable katana sword is something worth investing in.

Sharpened 1060 for Training

This katana sword has a blade measuring 72 centimeters long and 3.2 centimeters wide. It is made of 1060 steel which has a 0.60% carbon content. It is also fully sharpened, making it functional and very capable for cutting through soft and medium objects. This sharpened katana can withstand the rigors and challenges of real-time dojo training.

Full Tang Strength & Durability

This katana is a full tang sword so its tang and tsuka are one solid piece of metal. Its blade extends throughout the whole tsuka instead of attaching these with a weld or screw. The extended tang gives you more cutting force. This is due to the additional leverage that it provides. This type of sword is advantageous when you are cutting very thick targets.

The Katana’s Blood Groove

This katana weighs 1.59 kilograms but is made lighter due to the bohi. It is also called the blood groove or fuller and it helps make this sword more lightweight and easy to wield. The bohi also helps alter the blade’s balance point, making it swifter and easier to swing.

The Tsuka and Sword Fittings

This katana’s fittings include the fuchi, tsuba, kashira, and menuki which are all made of metal. The fuchi is the metallic border between the tsuka and tsuba. The tsuba, on the other hand, is the hand guard for protection. The menuki are the ornaments woven beneath the tsuka-ito.

The tsuka measures 27 centimeters which is adequate for double-gripping. It is protected by a white samegawa which is wrapped by a dark blue ito. The samegawa protects the tsuka and keeps your hand dry from sweat. The ito or tsuka-ito is not only as a decorative element. This also works to prevent technical problems or failure when using this katana.

Aesthetics and Extras

This katana sword also comes with a light brown saya with synthetic crocodile skin patterns. It brings out the sword’s beauty but is more than just this. The saya is also the scabbard that holds and protects this katana when stored. It also lets you draw the katana quickly during practice or training sessions.

If you want to protect the sword while heading for the dojo, a silk sword bag is also included for carrying.
