This Chinese Jian sword sports a 1095 carbon steel blade. It has a scabbard crafted out of ebony wood, and handmade metal fittings which adds to its aesthetics.

High Carbon Steel – Tough, Enduring, and Strong

This kind of steel used for the Jian has 0.95% of carbon, thus, categorizing it as a type of high carbon steel. Due to the amount of carbon, it makes for an excellent blade with adequate durability.

1095 carbon steel is the hardest among the other carbon steels. It is the best for creating swords that will last longer. Once folded, the steel will appear to have subtle grains on the blade’s surface. Keep in mind that the patterns do not affect the hardness or performance of the sword. It enhances its artistic value and beauty.

The Chinese Jian

This sword has a blade that is 4.5 centimeters wide and 76 centimeters long. Its grip is 26 cm in length and the whole sword weighs a total of 3.15 kilograms.

The Chinese Jian is a full tang so its tang goes through the entire length of its grip, making it a single piece of metal. It is a great aspect for any sword since it is tougher, giving it a level of rigidity and solidness to the piece.

This Chinese sword is fully functional and was sharpened to some extent (you can choose razor sharp blade during checkout). This Jian will be able to stand up to a certain level of abuse while keeping a sharp blade for longer periods.

Also, it comes with a double blood groove which helps make the sword more lightweight. It also functions by decreasing any absence of durability, and acts like an I-beam for support.

Chinese Jian Sword Fittings

This sword has a couple of fittings that are all crafted out of zinc. These include the hand guard, the pommel, and hilt collar. All these are handmade to get the exact fit for the handle.

Accessories of the Chinese Jian

For convenience and to carry the sword around with ease, this Chinese Jian comes with a silk sword bag.

To protect its blade, it has a scabbard made from ebony wood decorated with handmade fittings. These too are also made out of metal.

Ebony is a type of wood that is not only beautiful and exotic.

The Blade Parts of the Chinese Jian Sword

The blade is equally divided into three sections. This is for proper leverage in various defensive and offensive techniques.

The tip of the blade is the Jian Feng. This means it is for slashing, stabbing, and swift percussive cuts. It usually arches to a smooth point, yet during the Ming Dynasty, sharp angled points were a favorite. Yet there are a few antiques that feature rounded points, and these may be the result of wear and tear.

The middle section of the Jian sword is the Zhong Ren or middle edge. It is a part used for various defensive and offensive actions. These included drawing cuts, cleaving cuts, and even deflecting moves.

On later period Jian swords, the base of its blade were often crafted into a Ricasso. These parts do not have the same length with the Jian Feng since this was often only 3 – 4 inches long.
