The First Chinese Jian
The very first Chinese claims mentioning about the Jian dates back to the 7th century BCE. This was around the Spring and Autumn period where they claimed to have found the early Sword of Goujian.
The first Chinese swords was cast in tin bronze and has become popular for its two specific features: its resistance from tarnishing and unusual sharpness. This historical and ancient Chinese artifact is in the Hubei Provincial Museum.
The Goujian was in a sheathed scabbard made of wood finished in black lacquer. The sheath appeared to have almost an air-tight fit with the sword’s blade. Unsheathing the piece revealed a spotless blade. This is despite being submerged in water for over 2,000 years.
